County Council Member Opposes Term Limits

- August 13, 2013 - With the term limits referendum making its way on to the ballot this November, one county council member is voicing his disagreement with the idea.

Ten-term council member Fiore Leone said he is not a supporter of the term limits referendum.

He said if elected officials are continuing to do a good job for the community, there should be no limit on how long they can serve.

"What you do by putting in term limits is disenfranchise voters rights to appoint or vote on individuals that you may like," said Leone.

Despite not being in favor of the referendum, Leone said he will not contest the referendum appearing on the ballot.

The term limits referendum is backed by county executive Barry Grossman and he said the people of Erie County now have more of say in local politics and thinks the referendum will be successful.
