ERIE, Pa. -- Erie International Airport director Chris Rodgers has passed away. He was 49.
Rodgers began his 26-year aviation career as a freight handler for Peoples Express Airlines.
In February of 2008, Rodgers was named executive director of the airport, following the resignation of Kelly Fredricks.
Rodgers will be best remembered for his role in the completion of the multimillion dollar runway extension.
"Chris Rodgers was a tireless, positive leader in the Erie region generally and on behalf of the Airport Authority specifically," according to a news release from the Airport Authority. "His passing will be greatly mourned by all individuals associated with the Erie Regional Airport Authority and the Erie International Airport."
George Doughty was named interim director of the airport on Oct. 12 when Rodgers took a medical leave of absence.
