Farmers Discuss Agriculture

- April 5, 2014 - Agriculture was the topic of discussion today, as farmers from three counties came together to hear from leaders in the farming community - including the commonwealth's Secretary of Agriculture.

Farmers from Erie, Crawford, and Warren counties met Saturday afternoon at Edinboro University to talk about challenges facing the farming community.

Saturday's luncheon was all about brainstorming ways to overcome issues that were discussed, and also about shedding light on what Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture George Greig called "legislative accomplishments."

Greig also said he does not want farmers to be in the dark about what is going on in agriculture in Pennsylvania..

"It's good to keep them informed and tell them what we are doing to save their taxpayer dollars," said Greig.

Not to mention, so many questions are still looming in regards to the recently passed Farm Bill. Greig said the information in the bill is in the process of being broken down by his team, so that moving forward, farmers will be educated and up-to-date.

"We have our people at Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture going through that. Going to have education and information meetings to go through it to see what's in it, and how it affects them," said Greig.
