A group gathered for a prayer vigil at 2nd and State Streets on Friday night.

The crowd prayed, sang songs and held signs. They hope to spread their message of peace.

Their goal, justice for immigrants, and stopping the violence that affects children at the Mexican and United States border.

The event was organized by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie’s, Benedictines for Peace.

"This will get back to Texas and I hope it gets back to Governor Perry and he sees that people are in tune with these children with their suffering,” said Sister Marlene Bertke, Coordinator of Benedictines for Peace.

The sisters hold one of these prayer vigils the first Friday of every month.
