The fisherman made the call just after 10 a.m. on Saturday, describing what they said to be a body in the mouth of Cascade Creek, near Presque Isle Bay.
Crews from the Erie police and fire departments responded to the scene. They found Thapa’s body, which was retrieved by the fire department's water rescue team.
An autopsy was performed today by the Erie County Coroner’s office.
"The death was due to drowning and I ruled the death an accident. . . There was absolutely no sign of foul play,” said Lyell Cook, Erie County Coroner.
The Erie Police Department was able to contact members of Thapa’s family to assist in the identification.
Officials are still investigating but they believe Thapa may have been out in the bay earlier on Thursday, before drowning early Thursday evening.
No word on if Thapa had been reported missing.
