Chemical Free Cleaning

- Are you eager to give your home a good spring cleaning?

Before you grab the lemon-scented sprays and solutions, you should know that just because something 'smells' clean, doesn't necessarily mean it's good for you.

Respiratory experts say it's a good idea to avoid strong smelling cleaning products.

Chemicals in some cleaning products can irritate your eyes, nose, throat, skin and lungs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breathing fumes from products like detergents, bleaches and other cleaning solutions may cause harm to some people.

Using natural ingredients and a little elbow grease often cleans just as well without the risks.

Dr Sumita Khatri of the Cleveland Clinic has this recommendation "Use green, healthy, natural cleaning products instead of those very strong smelling, hard core cleaning materials that could take the veneer off of everything. Instead use things like oil based soaps, vinegar and lemon juice."

You'll find many natural cleaning ingredients right in your own cupboard.
