Copper Theft Charges

A Forest County man has been charged with theft and criminal mischief in an incident that shut down the Yorktown Plaza Giant Eagle store last October.

Police say Joseph Summerville cut some copper piping in a utility are a of the store, attempting to scrap out the copper.

Summerville was working as a demolition contractor in the store.

A refrigerant leak and damage to the freezer system allegedly caused almost $50,000 in damage.

Summerville is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 13.
