May 26, 2014- A memorial that salutes our bravest servicemen and women is dedicated today.
The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial has been decades in the making.
Today, it was dedicated to those who put their lives on the line for our freedom.
Hundreds of people filled Veteran's Memorial Park for a somber celebration.
It was a dedication for the Erie County Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The project has taken nearly 20 years, but today marks completion.
Those who fought for our freedom got the recognition they so deserved through a tribute.
It featured song, a 21 gun salute and a series of guest speakers who thanked the service men and women.
The memorial acts as a history book of sorts.
It features a wall that lists the men who died in combat, a walkway, stone benches and panels detailing what happened during the war.
The project was funded primarily through donations totaling at nearly a half a million dollars.
Veterans and those who have loved ones who fought for our freedom say today is a historic day.
Some finishing touches are still needed on this memorial.
Brick work must be completed on the pathways....
Regardless, officials behind the memorial say that it couldn't have been completed without the Erie community’s generosity.
