Fort Hood Shooting Hits Home

- In the wake of that fatal shooting at Fort Hood a local woman directly impacted by PTSD is calling for action and hoping to raise awareness for the disorder.

Through her own personal tragedy Venus Azevedo-Laboda has become an activist trying to help others and make a difference in the lives of those who have PTSD in Erie.

Two years ago Venus' brother Philip Azevedo took his own life following a battle with PTSD.

Venus says the latest tragedy in fort hood should be an eye opener and a call to action locally.

Thousands of people are diagnosed yearly with PTSD. a disorder that develops after a terrifying situation causes harm or threat of harm.

Venus doesn't believe the military does enough to take care of veterans who return home after fighting for our freedom.

So she's taking her own action here with a boots on ground campaign she hopes will help

She plans to work with county and state officials in the near future to raise awareness throughout the county for the disorder through “Boots On The Ground”.
