The Erie County Convention Center Authority is seeking a height variance for its hotel along the bayfront.

The authority wants to build the 30 million dollar hotel 61 feet high however the maximum height of buildings in that district location is 50 feet.

The appeal is on the zoning agenda under local architect Jeff Kidder who is working with the main architect on the project.

The authority sought a height variance when the Bayfront Sheraton Hotel was built.

That hotel stands at 110 feet.

Code enforcement officials say the regulation is set at that height but there can be exceptions to the rule.

The zoning hearing board will hear the appeal at its April 8th meeting at one p-m.
