July 1, 2014 - The sun is high in the sky, the weather's warm, and people want to soak up the sun, but Dr. Dennis Vidmar of Dermatology Associates of Erie says that's a no-no.

Vidmar says overexposure to UV rays can be very damaging, and he goes on to add that malignant melanoma will probably affect one in every 55 white Americans in his or her lifetime.

Vidmar says the sun isn't the only thing that people should protect themselves from: he warns that tanning beds are also dangerous.

He recommends people cover up when heading out, avoid peak hours of sunshine (10am-2:30pm), and apply sunscreen.
