Senator Bob Casey made the announcement earlier today. Casey said this money will help provide Erie County’s firefighters with the resources they need to ensure their safety and the safety of those they serve.
Funds are awarded through the assistance to firefighters grant program which aims to strengthen the health and safety of the nations first responders.
Lake Shore Assistant Chief Darryl Tavernese said the money will be used to replace air packs for the entire department.
Tavernese went on to add that the volunteer department isn't necessarily strapped for cash, but that this funding will help the department be able to budget for the replacement of other important items, such as a new firetruck.
If you would like to help out the department, you can send a donation to P.O. Box 8566 Erie, PA 16505.
If you are interested in joining the volunteer department, please call 814-833-6508 or stop by on Wednesday, which is drill night at 5310 West Lake Rd.
