This morning, the American Heart Association honored MPS with its silver award for heart care. The paramedic service won the Heart Associations highest award for it's treatment of heart attacks and other heart related issues while a patient is on the way to the hospital.
According to MPS paramedic Jeff Benson advanced high tech lifesaving care of heart patients begins in the ambulance, .because time matters it's important because heart care has advanced so much in the last few years. it used to be we didn't do a whole lot., now we're bringing patients into the hospital, we're transmitting EKG's to the hospital before we even get there. And many times the patient is taken right to the cath lab on our stretcher for immediate intervention. "
This is the first year for this new Heart Association award recognizing paramedic services.
