An Erie man learns how long he will spend behind bars for killing another man in a crash while under the influence.

50-year-old John Petersen was sentenced three to eight years behind bars in the crash that took the life of 27-year-old Bryon Long.

The crash happened back on July 3rd of last year.

Long was pushing a shopping cart along Peach Street near the Millcreek Mall when Petersen hit him with his van.

Petersen waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered a guilty plea in the case earlier this year.

Today, Petersen apologized for his actions and told long's family that he thinks about what he does every day.

Long's family members say they accepted Petersen's apology but they will never forget.

Petersen is also ordered to pay restitution, fines, and serve one year probation....
