September 4, 2014- Erie Police, the Haz Mat Team Erie Fire, and Security Teams from Erie Insurance all converged on the mailroom in the Erie Insurance Complex in Downtown Erie to deal with what was reported to be a "suspicious substance " discovered on an envelope there.

The item was reported at 10:45 AM.

Police blocked traffic in the area and sealed off the building.

Workers in Moon Suits entered the mailroom and administered a field analysis test to the substance on the envelope. The technicians determined the substance was not hazardous.

Officials declined to identify the substance, but assured reporters there was no danger.

Emergency workers withdrew, and the building was reopened at 12:45.
