A new Mercyhurst University program is training and testing potential police officers for our area.

150 aspiring police officers met at Harbor Creek High School to be part of a pilot program. The men and women interested in working for police departments in Erie and surrounding counties were put through a rigorous agility training session.

The Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Police Testing Consortium will alleviate costs. 23 local agencies will now use the program as a means of hiring qualified candidates. Those who pass Saturday's testing will go on to take a written test in two weeks.
