Rail Terminal Future Discussed

- The Develop Erie multimillion dollar rail terminal project might have been stopped but community leaders are still trying to find ways to move forward with the project. All of the community leaders at today’s workshop say Erie County needs a rail terminal like the one formerly proposed in Harborcreek. The question now is where should it be built and who should build it?

After at least four years of planning Develop Erie decided to halt the rail terminal project proposed for Harborcreek. Their decision came in May after many opponents spoke out against the 60 million dollar project being built in their own backyard.

PennDOT Deputy Secretary Toby Fauver says projects like this in Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh have been beneficial to the respective cities. Proponents of the rail project argue that if you invest in infrastructure you invest in the community’s .economy and make businesses more competitive.
