To find out Elizabeth D'Aurora rode along with two Erie police swat team officers on Saturday. Those officers Lt. Jon Nolan and Steve Deluca have a combined 34 years experience on the Erie police department.
In low-profile black police cars eight swat officers ride through what they say are the most troubled areas. Those troubled areas Include East 8th and Wayne Streets and 24th and Reed Streets.
Saturday night though was relatively quiet during the ride along It started with a group of kids hanging out on the corner of Fifth and Sassafras Streets that officers Nolan and Deluca told to move along. As the night went on they made a few traffic stops and on one they found marijuana on the driver.
Chief Randy Bowers started the extra patrols again following a surge in gun crime. The purpose of the extra patrols is to cut down on gun crimes and keep groups from gathering
