The society was denied a property tax exemption by the Erie County Board of Tax Assessment Appeals after they met with the society back on March 20th.
The society appealed the original decision from the assessment bureau that says the property is taxable...
The request comes after the Jefferson Educational Society purchased the building in August.
The society argues that they meet all of the criteria a non profit must meet to be exempt from paying property tax.
Although the exemption was denied the board did reassess the value of the property and lowered it from two point two million to nine hundred thousand.
