Insuring you're safe and preparing you for the worst on Lake Erie, that's the goal of the Regional Science Consortium's newest technology, a weather buoy.

The weather buoy was successfully deployed this morning. The 10 foot tall device is said to make all of the difference for people who fish and boat on Lake Erie, providing important information about the Lake's conditions.

The Regional Science Consortium's 400 pound piece of equipment was hauled two miles west north west of the lighthouse. The device will be used to give you more accurate information on wind and wave conditions as well as water temperature.

The buoy cost $100,000 and was funded through a grant from the great lakes observing system.
