Wintergreen Gorge Rescue

One person was seriously injured this afternoon after tumbling down a ravine in Wintergreen Gorge. The rescue call came just after 4:30 this afternoon. The rescue crews gathered near Ohio Hall at Penn State Behrend and hiked about a mile and a half to when the victim fell nearly 40 feet.

It took crews from several departments a couple hours to reach the man using ropes to propel down the ravine and get him stabilized and up a nearly 300 foot cliff. According to the chief of the Brookside Fire company, the man, said to be between 18 and 21 was trying to climb that cliff. The man was taken to UPMC Hamot in serious condition suffering from a head injury.
