Grand Finale Wraps Up Perry 200 Celebration

- The grand finale at Liberty Park and Perry Monument wrapped up the 18 month long Perry 200 Celebration.
The goal of the Perry 200 commemoration was to create a memorable event worthy of the 1913 and 1963 celebrations.
Organizers say the events unified the community.
Dozens of events over the last 18 months celebrated Erie's role in the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie.
The launch season kicked off with three flags being raised at 150 different sites across Erie County.
Throughout the launch season students at several schools learned all about Erie's history.
The sailing season was capped with the Grand Patriotic Parade, the July 4th fireworks extravaganza, the Spirit of Erie, the Tall Ships Festival and the Grand Finale.
The entire celebration brought the community together and created a sense of commradery.
A memorial will be erected at Dobbins Landing and dedicated tomorrow to officially close the Perry 200 Celebration.
