A new wave of communication in Erie County thanks to a federal grant

A federal grant will go a long way in Erie County’s effort to update its emergency radio equipment.

The Harborcreek Fire Department was awarded grant for nearly $204,000 to help offset the cost of the county’s Next Generation Public Safety Radio Project.

County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper says, “that is just money that is going to reduce the amount of taxpayer dollars going to this project, so we are thankful to the federal government for seeing the value in this project ".

The Next Generation System will allow all first responders to talk to each other on the same frequency throughout the county.
