Anita Jones' death ruled a homicide

Mother of four strangled to death in her home

Erie Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the city's fifth homicide of the year.  26 year old Anita Jones died from consequences of ligature strangulation, her death ruled a homicide following her autopsy Monday.

Jones was found Friday morning, bound and unresponsive, in her home.  Two of her young children, ages three and five (unharmed) were still inside the house.  She was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital where she died Saturday.  The children are now in the care of family.

So far, no arrests have been made, but Jones' foster family is hoping to find some closure.  "...all she wanted was just love from people; her family...  I just can't imagine someone hurting her.  Our hearts are just so heavy with that knowledge," says Velma Palochak, Jones' foster mother.

Jones, herself, was the mother of four young children, all under the age of 10.

Erie Police are interviewing any witnesses and looking through surveillance video found in the neighborhood.  Detectives are trying to reach out to anyone who had recent contact with the victim to come up with a timeline of events prior to the attack.
