Attorney general files lawsuit against owner of local construction company

ERIE, Pa. -- A month after Pennsylvania State Police filed more than 140 criminal charges against the owner of a local construction company, he now faces a civil lawsuit after an investigation by the attorney general's office.

Attorney General Bruce R. Beemer announced on Tuesday, that a civil lawsuit was filed in Erie County Court against Lloyd A. Davis and his company, LD Construction, LLC.

According to a news release, the lawsuit states that Davis accepted deposits for home improvement projects but failed to perform the work.

Police believe $253,000 was stolen from customers since 2013.

In November, Davis was arrested for home improvement fraud after 20 victims had come forward saying Davis never completed jobs they had paid for.

Davis, who is the sole member of his company, is also accused of other deceptive business practices, including failing to sign contracts prior to receiving a deposit; Demanding and receiving excessive deposits; Failing to include all required information in contracts; Providing shoddy work and using potentially misleading advertisements.

The lawsuit seeks to prevent Davis from working in the construction business until all of the penalties, costs, and restitution are paid in full, the news release said.

Davis remains in the Erie County Prison on $250,000 bond.
