After the cruel killing of her baby girl and the swift capture of the man believed to be responsible, a mother speaks out; sharing her harrowing experience.
"I'm so heartbroken over the whole situation. I'll never get to see my baby girl again." Kelsie Blankenship pledges to find justice for her baby, Sereniti Sutley, and to follow through on her path to recovery as she battles addiction.
When Kelsie was pregnant with Sereniti, she notified several males that they could potentially be the father of her child. Andrew Payne was one those men told that he could be the father; his DNA needed to be tested. He neglected to do this for months and allegedly showed little, if any interest in resolving the issue. Payne chose to have his DNA tested about three days after Sereniti’s death; he was Sereniti’s biological father.
Brandon Sutley; however, chose to be in Sereniti’s life from the beginning despite knowing that he may not be the baby’s biological father. The man who served in the role of Sereniti's father, Brandon Sutley, continues to stand by her side. "I was next to Kelsie in every part of Sereniti's joyful life. I watched her take her first breath in this frightening world."
Blakenship says, "my past was not a good one, but when I held my little miss for the first time I had a spiritual awakening. I knew a reason to stay clean and be the mother I needed to be for my daughter."
The Blakenship and Sutley families are dealing with many people creating online pages to raise money in Sereniti's name. They say these requests have no connection to the family.
As far as Sereniti's killer, Police are working this hour to return Joshua Gurto back to Ohio after being captured outside of Pittsburgh following a manhunt that spanned two states. Police believe that Gurto is responsible for the beating death and sexual assault of his girlfriend, Blakenship's, daughter, but because he was captured in Pennsylvania, Ohio authorities must petition Pennsylvania Courts to have Gurto returned.
Gurto could also agree to waive that process and return immediately to Ohio. We're expecting to learn more on that later this afternoon.
