ERIE, Pa. -- Erie's newest bayfront hotel officially opened Thursday.
The Bayfront Cobblestone Hotel & Suites, 701 W. Bayfront Parkway, was granted permission to open its doors of occupancy Thursday.
It is the third Cobblestone Hotel to open in Erie County in the past two years.
The 56-room hotel includes an indoor pool and whirlpool, along with an onsite beer and wine bar.
As the city of Erie is currently in the process of deciding to appeal the Erie County Board of Tax Assessment tax-exempt decision on other bayfront hotels, Tom Kennedy, developer of Cobblestone, said those hotels should pay taxes.
"We definitely need more tax paying development in the community,” Kennedy said. “Because if we don't grow the community in that area, then the rest of us who live and work in the community pay more than our fair share.”
The Erie County Board of Tax Assessment Appeals ruled both the Bayfront Sheraton and Courtyard Marriott hotels are tax-exempt. Both the Sheraton and Courtyard Marriott are owned by the Erie County Convention Center Authority.
City Council will vote on Wednesday to appeal rulings from the Erie County Board of Tax Assessment Appeals.
