Best to stay off the ice for now, local fisherman warns

The warm temperatures are making for some dangerous conditions, not only for homeowners but for sport-fishermen.

There was some ice fishing going on, on Presque Isle Bay, but as the temperatures went up; so did concerns that the ice could be getting thin in areas.  Most long-time bay observers say it's better to be safe than sorry and allow a little time for the cold January weather to return.

Jerry Strypzak of the Sons of Lake Erie says, "It's awful warm... I don't know how thick the ice is today; chances are it's eroding quickly.  In a couple days we'll be back down below freezing.  I wouldn't go out, personally, for a couple days."

Safety tips for ice fishing include not going out alone, bringing proper ice equipment, and wearing a life jacket.
