Bicycle vs truck crash kills boy

UPDATE: Young victim identified as Richard Stepchuck

Vernon Township, PA - An accident involving a bicycle and a truck claims the life of a 12 year old boy in Crawford County.

The deadly crash happened around 6 pm Tuesday evening on Cussewago Road just north of the Mercer Street bridge in Vernon Township.

According to Vernon Township police, the 12 year old was riding a bike down a long driveway when he lost control of it.  The bicycle and the victim slid into the road where both were hit by a truck traveling about 30 miles an hour.  The young victim has been identified as Richard Stepchuck, who lived in the neighborhood where he was killed.

In a written report, police indicated the driver of the truck could not see the bicycle because a parked vehicle was blocking his vision.

The boy was rushed to Meadville Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
