Boy, 5, dies days after James Conner dedicates spirit award to him

ERIE, Pa. -- University of Pittsburgh football standout James Conner, who received the Disney Spirit Award recently, dedicated it to a 5-year-old boy he had met that was fighting cancer.

Andrew O'Neil, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2015, has died.

Andrew passed away Monday night, but not before meeting his football hero, Conner. Andrew first met Conner at the Pitt-Duke game on Nov. 19 and felt a kinship to Conner, because both had to have chemotherapy.

When the two met at the Pitt-Duke, Conner gave him an autographed game ball and spent some time with him on the sidelines.
