Brendel formally announces run for City Council

ERIE, Pa. -- An advocate for gay and transgender rights, who is also an Erie young professional, throws his hat in the ring for City Council.

Jason Brendel announced his run on the Democratic ticket for an open seat on council.

Brendel kicked off his campaign on Valentine's Day because he said Erie needs more love. Brendel said he brings humility, transparency and heart to Erie leadership.

He has five proposed plans he wants to bring to the city as a councilman.

"I believe in Erie,” he said. “I believe in ... our tide is turning. Squash that negativity and hate.”

Brendel has a criminal record including harassment charges filed in August 2016.

Although he pleaded guilty, Brendel said the incident leading to his charges was twisted and misconstrued.
