ERIE, Pa. -- Students of Cathedral Prep held a debate for Erie’s Republican mayoral candidates.
Prep’s Students for the Advancement of Erie invited the two Republican candidates, John Persinger and Jon Whaley, to share their platforms and respond to prepared questions.
The moderators, comprised of members of the school’s debate team, focused on education, crime and the economy.
Students said they are concerned about the future of the city.
“We thought that we’re going away for a couple of years to college. We’d like to see what things are like a few years down the line,” said senior Will Lewis, a moderator and member of Students for the Advancement of Erie.
He said the debate is also a way to contribute to the community.
“We wanted to leave a lasting impact, as well as we could, on the city.”
Cathedral Prep will host a Democratic mayoral debate in the H. David Bowes Auditorium on May 2 at 8 p.m.
