Central Tech to become Erie High School

New name to take effect this summer

Erie High School.

That’s the name selected for the new high school to be established at the current location of Central Tech.

The Erie School District made the announcement Thursday afternoon during a press conference at the high school.

Administrators unveiled the name with a group of students who helped to develop ideas for rebranding.

About two-thirds of nearly 2,500 students voted for the name Erie High School, according to Daria Devlin, coordinator of grants and community relations of Erie’s Public Schools.

Students from all four high school had voted Friday on proposed names, mascots and colors. Other names that were under consideration included Erie Union High School, Bayside High School and Gem City High School.

The district also announced the new administration for Erie High School.

Jill Crable, principal of East High, and Mike Pisano, assistant principal of Strong Vincent, will be installed as co-principals. Pam Mackowski, currently the principal of Central Tech, will be the director of vocational programming.

The mascot and colors are still cloaked in mystery.

The district is saving those details for a rally to be held at Veterans Stadium on June 2.
