City Treasurer's Office Employee Fired

Charged with tampering with public records

ERIE, Pa - Tuesday May 16, 2017 - An employee in the Erie Treasurer's office, hired after a lengthy dispute between Mayor Joe Sinnott and Treasurer Sue DiVecchio, has been charged with tampering with public records.

54-year-old Sherry Wieczorek faces two misdemeanor charges, including tampering with records or identification and tampering with public records and information.

Charges were filed after a resident claimed her check had been altered by $31.62, a check she used to pay her property taxes.

Chief Don Dacus says Wieczorek failed to give the victim her two percent early payment discount, altering the check to balance her drawer.

Wieczorek was no longer an employee of the city as of today.
