Local shelters and community centers received hundreds of health care packages to help the individuals they serve as part of a special weeklong celebration.
This week, Community Health Net is celebrating National Health Center Week with the goal of raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America's Health Centers.
The week is also about giving thanks to the agencies in the Erie community who work with those in need and help support the mission of the Community Health Net.
On Wednesday, hundreds of health care packages were delivered to four local shelters and community centers.
At Community of Caring, boxes were dropped off filled with bags of health care items ranging from toothbrushes to sunscreen.
The packages were stuffed and put together with donated items by individuals from United Health Care in Pittsburgh.
"It's very exciting,” said Ginny Vommaro of United Health Care.”This is new to me and I think new to our staff in our Pittsburgh office as well, and I am anxious to share this day with them."
To cap off the week, Community Health Net will host its 10th annual Patient Appreciation Picnic Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center on West 12th and State streets.
