ERIE, Pa. -- A woman was helped out of her house but her east Erie home was destroyed by a fire early Friday morning.
A fire inspector is searching for what caused the fire at the corner of East Lake Road and Hess Avenue around 4:15 a.m. Fire was shooting out of a first-floor window as crews arrived on scene.
Lawrence Green, who lives next door, called 911 and said the woman who lives in the home was outside screaming.
“When the fire was on the side of the house, she ran in,” Green said. “When she ran in I called 911 and had to come back out.”
But Green said the woman ran back inside the burning house.
“So I had to go back in there and by the side door and grabbed her and told her to come on,” Green said.
Green was able to lead the woman out of the house. The woman was treated for smoke inhalation.
One cat was lost in the fire.
