Crimes being witnessed on Facebook live

All kinds of crimes are being witnessed live on Facebook as technology continues to improve. But the use of Facebook Live also is put to good use.

Facebook Live is used to bring people instant news, share experiences with friends and also instant communication. However, there's been recent use to stream shootings, alleged rapes and even suicides.

Chicago police are searching for multiple suspects who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl and streamed it live on Facebook.

A sheriff-involved shooting in Tennessee and multiple suicides also were captured live on Facebook. Social media proving powerful once again, especially in young people.

A local expert said students may often blur what's reality with what's in a make-believe, virtual world.

"The video games that they play now, whether it's virtual reality or augmented reality, do they realize how they interact with people?” Sean Bear, a technology coach at Mercyhurst Prep, said. “Whether it's in real life or in the virtual world, it's still real people."

Schools like Mercyhurst Prep are offering classes to students to teach the social and ethical ways to interact on social media.
