Days narrow to vote for Erie High School's mascot and school colors

The days to get your vote in for Erie High School's mascot and school colors are narrowing.  Reportedly, voting may end in the next couple of days.

The options for mascot include:
Storms (After Erie's unpredictable weather)
Titans (Titans carry a trident with three stakes which symbolizes the three consolidated schools)
Royals (Royals are the kings and queens of the city)
Centaurs (1/2 man, 1/2 horse symbolizes a combination of programs; old mascot of Tech Memorial HS)

The options for colors include:
Carolina Blue/Storm Grey
Carolina Blue/Silver
Carolina Blue/Black
Royal Purple/Gold
Green/Gold

Voting can be done via a survey at:  goo.gl/forms/qDNC8KkoyIEAnK6p2
The district will announce the results at a rally to be held at Veterans Stadium on June second.

The information gathered from the survey, along with the new name of the school, 'Erie High School,' will be used in the renovation of the old Central High School building.  With the district's plan to close Strong Vincent and East high schools, and transfer those students to Central, now 'EHS,' Bea Habursky, Assistant Superintendent of the Erie School District comments, “if we’re bringing most of our students in the high schools to Central Tech, we know that we definitely need some renovations there.”

Over the next two-and-a-half to three years, Central Tech could see up to $68 million in improvements, including the construction of a new south wing.

Along with the realignment, the new administration was announced, as well.  Jill Crable, Principal of East High and Mike Pisano, Assistant Principal of Strong Vincent, will be installed as Co-Principals of Erie High School.  Pam Mackowski, Principal of Central Tech., will be the Director of Vocational Programming.

The savings of the closing/consolidation includes the elimination of more than 50 teaching positions through incentives such as early retirement packages.  Savings for the 2017-2018 fiscal year could drop to $4 million or less after factoring in the cost of debt services and depending on the timeframe, according to Bea Habursky, assistant superintendent of the Erie School District.
