ERIE, Pa. -- Teachers and parents are using social media to support public education.
A grassroots initiative, “Wear Red for Ed,” is encouraging people to wear red Wednesday to protest secretary of education nominee Betsy DeVos.
DeVos answered questions before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions last Tuesday about polices and her background but some educators across the country and locally are concerned.
"We're concerned about the nominee,” vice president of the Erie Education Association Bill Kuhar said. “Because she has a lack of experience in public education."
DeVos' confirmation vote was originally scheduled for Tuesday but has been postponed to Jan. 31.
"I'm really encouraged that we have civic action going on,” Bill said, “positive civic action, looking out, having conversations with people, and talking to your legislators about things that are important to you."
