EHS, day one excitement

Book bags are packed and busses are loaded...  the city schools are back in session.

You could feel the energy on the streets today, with floods of students heading to school for their very first day as Erie Royals.

Erie High School students began the fall semester at 8am.  It's an interesting kind of first day back for the district after months of ups and downs.  Moving forward with the consolidation plan, the fire at Central Tech and introducing a new Superintendent.  Many even sporting their purple and gold Royals gear on the first day.

Students say getting used to the bigger class sizes and congestion in the hallways will be an adjustment, but things are looking up from here.  Incoming Freshman, Alyssa Mook tells us, "It looks kind of nerve wracking. There's a lot of people, but I'm happy to be here and I'm proud to be a Royal."

Community Relations Coordinator of Erie Public Schools, Daria Devlin, says, "having gone through some difficulties and make the difficult, hard decisions, we really feel that things are on their way up and we think it's gonna be a great year and it's the beginning of something really special."

Not all the rooms are fully recovered from the fire that destroyed part of the building a few months back, but Devlin says with temporary classrooms, there is certainly enough space for all of the students.  That part of the building should be reopened around February.
