The Anna Shelter is investigating an apparent case of animal cruelty as a dog is found crated in a shed without food or water for nearly a month.
Grace was picked up by Anna Shelter employees Monday after a neighbor reported the whereabouts of the dog. She's not quite one year old and was found severely emaciated with severe frostbite.
Grace is now on IV fluids and medications to help prepare her system for food. She's not out of the woods yet, but the Anna Shelter is hopeful. Owner Ruth Thompson saying, "yesterday was literally her critical day, her organs were failing, she is 20 pounds, she should be 40 or 50 pounds, and then the temp's haven't helped her out at all, so she has frostbite on her nose, her ears on the pads of her feet [from] being out in the elements in her condition... she had nothing to fight".
Investigators with the Anna Shelter believe they know the owner and are following up on leads. A law passed earlier this year, bringing stiff penalties to animal owners who subject their pets to cruel conditions.
