A public hearing is scheduled for tonight for a rezoning request by Erie Insurance.
Erie Insurance is asking to rezone more than 100 parcels around the 200 block of East 4th to 6th streets to "residential limited business," a mixed-use area of commercial and residential.
Erie Insurance would not comment on the plans for the land, but tells us they own a majority of that area and want to rezone for potential, future use.
Erie's Chief Zoning Officer, Jake Welsh, says property owners do not have to submit development plans on a rezoning request. "There doesn't have to be a plan for the proposed use. Any of these uses under the district are then allowed if the zoning is approved," said Welsh.
The public hearing is set to begin tonight at eight o'clock in Erie City Council Chambers.
