An Erie man is charged after bringing an emaciated dog to the Humane Society, claiming it was a stray and living underneath his porch.
Robert Heath is facing animal cruelty and neglect charges. Gunner, the black lab he brought to the local Humane Society, weighed only 26 pounds. Heath also claimed there was a second stray dog, also living underneath his porch, that had already died.
Gunner is now safe at the Humane Society but has a long road to recovery. Nicole Bawol, Executive Director of the NWPA Humane Society, tells us, "When we took him to Glenwood, he was wagging his tail and he just wanted to be held. I mean, he looks at you with these eyes and he's just like, 'help me. I want to play, I want to have fun, I want to be a puppy.'"
Heath remains behind bars. His bond is set at $5,000.
