ERIE, Pa. -- A former Union City Borough manager pleaded guilty to fraud in federal court on Monday.
Cheryl Capela plead guilty to four counts of fraud for stealing $203,174.25 from the borough between July 2013 and July 2016.
Capela, who was a borough employee for 26 years, faces up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled June. 5
"It's been tough on the community,” Union City Councilman Charles Steadman said. “There is a lot of friends and family who have known her forever.”
Police said she used checks from the borough to pay off credit card debt.
