Blaze destroys roof at Cambridge Springs fire training facility

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. -- A roof was destroyed after a hot spot sparked a fire following a controlled burn in Cambridge Springs on Sunday.

Smoke and flames engulfed the Crawford-Venango Fire School at the corner of Ridge Road and Center Street around 3 p.m., about 90 minutes after firefighters left the control burn site.

The building is where firefighters hold training sessions with live fires that resemble realistic situations.

Jeffery Murdock, Cambridge Springs fire chief, said most of the building is savable, however, a new roof is needed.

The inside of the building is lined with cement board for fire protection.

No injuries were reported.
