Firefighters pay respect to fallen soldier by running 5k in his honor

The Fairfield Fire Department remembering a fallen hero by traveling to Louisiana for the annual 5k held in his honor.

Erie native, Senior Airman Bryan Bell, was killed in action in 2012 while serving in Afghanistan.  Since 2014, an annual 5k is held in his honor at the Barksdale Airforce Base in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The race begins and ends at the 'Senior Airman Brayan Bell Fitness Center' named in his honor.  A memorial is displayed in front of the center.  Rick Bell, Brayn's Father, tells us, "it says, 'a courageous, gentle giant.  Loved and respected by all who he touched.' and I think that says it.  He was a big guy with a big heart."

This year is special because a group of firefighters from the Fairfield Fire Department is traveling south to run the race.  One of the firefighters even running in full turnout gear, including the helmet that was issued to Bryan.
