ERIE, Pa. -- The Flagship Niagara League saw continued growth last year.
The announcement came during the annual members meeting at the Erie Maritime Museum.
The U.S. Brig Niagara Sailing Program saw enrollment increase to 145 trainees in 2016, or a 25-percent increase over the previous year.
It was also the best year financially with more than $2.3 million in revenue, according to executive director Shawn Waskiewicz of the Flagship Niagara League.
“So, it was a really good year and that was in part because of Tall Ships Erie. So, thanks to the community and all of the volunteers that make that event a success every three years,” said Waskiewicz.
The organization said it plans to acquire a second vessel, which could arrive by Memorial Day 2017.
