GE runners donate over $80,000 to American Cancer Society

The efforts of 12 endurance athletes from General Electric are making the future a little brighter for cancer patients in the area.

This morning, the group, 'Popped our Corks,' presented the American Cancer Society with a check for more than $80,000.  They collected the money by participating in a 200-mile relay race run in Miami.  The members ran individual legs of the race up to 12 miles each.

Many, like Andrew Paris, were running for family members who have died to the deadly disease. "Without question that 12-mile leg was the hardest and in the true spirit of the whole event I felt my Mom's presence there with me, helping me along... I wouldn't have made it without her, it was quite an experience."

In the last 11 years, the 'Popped our Corks' team has raised over $600,000 for charity.
