GE To Build 100 Locomotives for Egypt

Breaking News out of Cairo....

Reuters News Agency is reporting that GE has signed a deal to build 100 locomotives for Egypt as part of their plan to modernize the Egyptian rail service. The deal is reportedly worth about $575 million includes upgades and maintenance on 81 GE locomotives that Egyptian National Railways bought in 2008, training of Egyptian Engineers, and parts and supplies.

The first 25 locomotives are expected to be delivered in 2018. This is in addition to the large order recently placed by Indian state railroads and several other SW Asian nations. No word yet on where the locomotives will be built.
