General McLane High School hosted its first ever Military Signing Recognition to honor the Seniors of the Class of 2017 who have committed to serve our country.
The ceremony honored 6 seniors who are enlisting in the military after graduation this spring. Senator Michelle Brooks was in attendance and announced she gave each student a flag, currently flying over the capital for the next six days.
The event took place at 10am in the General McLane auditorium, followed by a reception in the school's library.
Students walked across the stage with their parents to shake hands with school and government officials, including Senator Michele Brooks, guests representing the School Board and representatives from Ryan Bizzaro's office.
The students include:
Hunter Beddick (Air Force)
Brody Wise (Army)
Chloe Casbohm (Navy)
Derek Hecker (Navy)
Marisa Sammons (Navy)
Daniel Teed (Army ROTC)
Associate Principal, Pamela Mackowski, proposed the school honor these students in the way they honor athletes signing college contracts. "We do athletic signings for students who commit to play sports in college which I think is a great thing, and to include other students who have made a commitment to serve our country; we wanted to honor them with a special signing"
